Ben Weyts

Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders

Ben Weyts is the Flemish Minister for Mobility, Public Works, the Vlaamse Rand, Tourism and Animal Welfare.

In the elections on 25 May 2014, Ben found himself on the Flemish list in the Province of Flemish Brabant. Therefore after five years in the Federal Parliament, he chose for the government level where he gained his first experience, as Head of the Minister’s Office and Spokesman for Minister Geert Bourgeois.

A steadfast asset
Ben Weyts is a bona fide Fleming who wants to do his utmost to strengthen his community. He was already extremely active in the Flemish Movement when he was a political sciences student, so the step to the N-VA was a logical one. With his knowledge of the issues at hand, his passion and his authentic straightforward style, he soon became a steadfast asset in Flemish and Belgian politics.

National Vice-President
In 2011, Ben was elected as national Vice-President. When the N-VA organised a well-attended and talked about ideological congress at the beginning of 2014, he was asked to act as the conference chair. He is also involved at the local level: following local elections in 2012, he became fraction leader in the town council of his place of residence, Beersel, where he injected a breath of fresh air into the town hall.
