Bart De Wever: “The PS would rather have a government in which it is itself the boss”

“I have the impression that the PS doesn’t want a government with a majority in Flanders. It would rather have a government in which it can be the boss.” So said Chairman Bart De Wever before the start of the N-VA party executive.

On Tuesday, Informateurs Joachim Coens and Georges-Louis Bouchez will present their final report to the King. In the meantime, the N-VA, as the largest party, has already sat down with the PS. The PS does not seem to want to reduce the gap between the two parties. Chairman Bart De Wever is not impressed with the attacks coming from the PS. “I have the impression that it doesn’t want a government with a majority in Flanders, but instead a government in which it can be the boss,” Bart De Wever explains. “Hostilities have not exactly ceased,” Vice-Chairman Lorin Parys says in agreement with him.

Importance of a federal government with a Flemish majority

Last weekend, PS parliamentary group leader Ahmed Laaouej was promoting a government without the N-VA. “Mr Ahmed Laaouej says that the CD&V should drop us in favour of a government without a Flemish majority. He talks about democratic values, but is himself presenting something that is much less democratic,” N-VA Vice-Chairman Lorin Parys has already said on the radio news programme De Ochtend. However, Bart De Wever is indeed pleased with the attitude of the CD&V. That party continues to insist on the importance of a federal government with a Flemish majority. “I am grateful to them for that. I can’t say the same for all partners,” Bart De Wever says.
