Bart De Wever: “Confederalism is coming”
“Confederalism is coming. The ungovernability of Belgium cannot be allowed to continue. And anyone wanting that Confederalism If we want to make structural changes, then we have to change the structures. Confederalism is the structural change that this country needs. The basic principle of confederalism is that Flanders and Wallonia are the owners of all powers. They exercise these themselves, but can also make decisions together and manage certain powers together at the confederal level, in both of their interests. This completely reverses the logic. Instead of transferring federal powers to Flanders and Wallonia, these powers can be transferred to the confederal level. Forced cooperation is replaced by voluntary cooperation. Must becomes will. Dismantling from above becomes building up from below. Confederalism is therefore deciding together on what we want to do together. confederalism has only one option: the N-VA.” N-VA Chairman Bart De Wever gave a detailed explanation about the decision of the party to put him forward as a candidate for Minister-President in the May elections. Bart De Wever emphasised that the given political context obliges him to step out of his comfort zone in Antwerp in order to steer the N-VA as strongly as possible through the elections. “Being a vital player in Flanders is job number one for the N-VA,” said Bart De Wever.
Reconquista
After 26 May, the N-VA wishes to be able to form a new Flemish Government as soon as possible in order to play a stronger role in the federal negotiations. Bart De Wever referred to the reconquista that the PS is planning. “Elio Di Rupo has been speaking in Dutch again as of lately, a sign that he clearly wants to become Prime Minister once more. On the Flemish side, there is a green-blue axis that will try to form a government without the N-VA. If that happens, it will be the end of everything we want in terms of migration and social-economic reforms.”
