Bart De Wever candidate for Minister-President of Flanders

14 January 2019

“Flanders must be the level at which the real political decisions are taken.” N-VA Chairman Bart De Wever announced a number of “decisive choices” at a press conference on Monday morning in the run-up to the elections of 26 May. The most striking one is that Bart De Wever himself is a candidate to become the Minister-President of Flanders. At the federal level, the N-VA is putting forward former Minister of the Interior Jan Jambon as a candidate for Prime Minister. He will head the Parliament list in May in the province of Antwerp. The current Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois will head the European list.

Flanders is our democracy

During the New Year party last Saturday, Bart De Wever already emphasised that the N-VA wishes to keep on governing at all levels, also after 26 May. The N-VA is shouldering its responsibility to change the country structurally. Flanders plays a central part in this. “Flanders is our democracy. Here, we are working on our future, with high-quality education and investments in healthcare and mobility, in the construction of social housing and in our economic fabric,” Bart De Wever said.
