Europe is making sure that SMEs drown in red tape

The European Parliament dismisses the electronic services card in favour once again of increased bureaucracy at the expense of the citizen. An electronic services card would allow Flemish service providers to start working in a different Member State more easily. SMEs interested in providing their services in a different Member State are now at risk of drowning in a time-consuming and expensive paper chase. This promotes a sense of frustration and a reticence to make the move across national borders. “The Parliament is letting a unique opportunity to give Belgian SMEs additional breathing room slip through its fingers,” says a convinced Anneleen Van Bossuyt, MEP and Chair of the Internal Market Committee.
