Shift in asylum and migration policy bears its first fruit

State Secretary Theo Francken presented his asylum and migration policy statistics in the first half of 2015.
The number of applications for economic and student migration remained more or less stable, and had more positive than negative assessments. The number of applications for family reunification increased slightly, but humanitarian and residence permit applications decreased substantially. This indicates that the procedures are once again being used as they were intended.
Furthermore, it is remarkable that fewer asylum seekers voluntarily returned to their country of origin during the first half of the year and that the Council for Alien Law Litigation is slowly catching up on its case load.
