New agency for safety coordination is a waste of money

The Brussels government created a new department responsible for coordinating the preventive services and police departments within the Brussels-Capital Region. “A waste of money,” according to N-VA Member of Parliament Johan Van den Driessche. “Bringing the management structures of the six police zones together instead of forming a new department would be sufficient. This would also cost less instead of more.”
“The Brussels-Capital Region is completely off base in creating a new institute that costs unnecessary amounts of money and has people working desk jobs instead of putting more police officers out on the streets,” says Van den Driessche. “Moreover, this new institute cripples the democratic control of Parliament.” After all, the new “Brussels Prevention and Safety” ION (public utilities company) will be under direct authority of the Minister-President.
