Flemish export highest ever in 2014

In 2014, Flanders’ export amounted to 293.5 billion euros: the highest amount ever. This is shown in an analysis of the export figures of the Institute for the National Accounts (INR), conducted by Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT). “These figures show once more that we not only have to further develop Flanders as a logistics hub, but also strengthen our industrial web,” says Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois (N-VA). “We must not miss the boat for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
The Flemish part of the entire Belgian export was 82.4 percent in 2014. That same year, Wallonia was responsible for 15.3 percent and Brussels for 2.3 percent. In 2014, Flemish export increased by a half percent compared to 2013.
Tap into new growth markets
Access to new growth markets increased considerably in 2014. Export to the Middle East increased (+4.9%), which was considerably higher than the overall growth average in Asia (+2.84%).
