Demir calls on UN leaders to cooperate on a global Blue Deal

Flemish Environment Minister Zuhal Demir advocated for a global Blue Deal between the countries of the United Nations. She did so during the first UN Water Conference in New York: “Let’s all strike a Blue Deal together. A commitment to cherish and protect the precious blue gold in our lives, in the lives of our children and of future generations.”
No water or time to lose
“Being a good leader is about taking the right choices, inspiring people, and making a difference (in their lives). Let us make that difference – a Blue Deal - for every human being on this planet we hold dear. To preserve the precious blue gold in our lives, in the lives of our children and of future generations.” That was Zuhal Demir’s closing plea as head of the Belgian delegation at the UN Water Conference in New York. This is where the outlines for the global water policy are being defined. “The clock is ticking. There is no time nor water to waste,” stated Demir.
For future generations
Demir certainly had to raise the fact at this forum that Flanders has a particularly solid story with the Blue Deal to tackle water scarcity systematically. Indeed, the exceptional approach may inspire other countries that face seasonal water scarcity. Zuhal Demir advocated for a global Blue Deal between the countries of the United Nations. She challenged fellow government leaders to join forces to ensure water availability for future generations.
