The N-VA hands out tea lights to increase resistance to the nuclear power phase-out
Delegations of the N-VA handed out tea lights to commuters in the train stations of the Flemish provincial capitals this morning. On the day before a possible federal decision on a nuclear power phase-out, the party once again wants to point out the importance of keeping as many nuclear power stations open as possible. “Anyone who wants to close our nuclear power stations is making the mistake of the century,” the party emphasises. “Especially in the current geopolitical context.”
Absurd Groen party plans
Tomorrow (Friday, 18 March), the federal government will in principle decide on a possible nuclear power phase-out. The N-VA has always been crystal clear in its position: without nuclear energy, we are embarking on an adventure that jeopardises the affordability, reliability and sustainability of our energy. In addition, the current crisis in Ukraine teaches us that we need to get rid of our dependence on Russian gas as soon as possible. It is therefore also absurd that the Groen party wants to close the nuclear power stations and build additional gas-fired power stations.
Symbolic act with tea lights
To give force to its demands, the N-VA campaigned in the train stations of the Flemish provincial capitals. N-VA volunteers, accompanied by our energy specialists Bert Wollants and Andries Gryffroy and, among others, Maaike De Vreese, Allessia Claes, Arnout Coel, Annick De Ridder, Steven Vandeput, Frieda Gijbels, Wouter Raskin, Rita Moors and Anneleen Van Bossuyt, handed out tea lights to the commuters. “If Putin turns off the gas tap, we may still need those candles,” it says.
Will the Vivaldi government see the light?
“The N-VA opts for a realistic energy mix, in which nuclear energy must continue to play a role. That is the most economical and the most climate-friendly energy source. Hopefully, the Vivaldi government will also see the light,” say the campaigners.
