Mandatory civic integration in Brussels is delayed once again
The fifth deadline for the introduction of mandatory integration in Brussels will probably not be met either. After much postponement, that deadline was 1 April 2022, but the uniform computerised system, which was to be developed by Brussels Ecolo minister Alain Maron, is not ready yet. Flemish MP Annabel Tavernier compares it to a “procession of Echternach” (slowly moving forward).
This coming Friday, the Flemish Government will discuss an amendment to the cooperation agreement on the integration process for newcomers in Brussels. A new article is intended to provide the legal basis for processing personal data in a uniform computerised system.
Questions about clarity for years now
Annabel Tavernier: “It is good that steps are finally being taken to introduce mandatory Civic integration Flanders has a policy for civic integration. This is a guided and targeted form of social integration for people of foreign origin. The intention is that the newcomers are provided with a valuable place in society by including them instead of excluding them. Civic integration, which includes language lessons and civic integration courses, was brought about by the participation of the N-VA in the Flemish Government since 2004 and the appointment of a Minister for Civic Integration. civic integration in Brussels, but the fact that Brussels is only now working on the legal basis for processing personal data in a uniform computerised system simply means that the system can never be operational by April. We have been asking for clarity about this both locally and in the Brussels Parliament for more than a year: it is now clear that this is still in its infancy. Once again, we are looking at a postponement. This file increasingly resembles the procession of Echternach.”
