The N-VA is upset about the forgotten signature costing Belgium 2.5 million vaccines

20 January 2021

“This is an absolute blunder. Any vaccine that becomes available later could cost lives.” The N-VA is merciless with Minister Vandenbroucke now that it appears that Belgium missed out on 2.5 million vaccines because of a forgotten signature. “A lot of blunders and mistakes have already come to light in this crisis, but this really tops everything.”

At the beginning of January, the N-VA asked the Minister why our country was not entitled to 7.5 million doses but only 5 million. The Minister evasively replied to this question that the total order of 600 million would be distributed proportionally. To which the N-VA responded that proportionality should apply in number but also in time.

Unjustifiable negligence

We read in the news magazine Knack today that the forgotten signing of an order form was at the root of this blunder. “How in the world is it possible for someone to forget something like that? How can one justify such negligence to healthcare workers who are on the front lines every day, confronted with COVID-19 patients daily and who would be so relieved with a vaccine?,” the N-VA asks.

The Minister concealed an order gone wrong

The N-VA hopes that the statements about the next larger supply will be correct so that the population can be vaccinated quickly. During statements in committee, the Minister of Health kept quiet about the order that went wrong, despite specific questions from the N-VA. “We will question the Minister about what effect this has on the effective availability and speed of availability of the vaccine in Belgium. We hope that the Minister can provide clarity on this; confidence in his policy depends on it. We are watching this very closely.”
