Zuhal Demir and Jan Jambon want to get rid of the coronavirus ban on travel to secondary residences

Flemish Minister of Tourism Zuhal Demir wants to see the ban on travel to secondary residences “lifted as soon as possible”. Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon supports Zuhal Demir’s appeal.

Wrong and pointless measure

Flemish Minister of Tourism Zuhal Demir and Minister-President Jan Jambon find the current ban no longer tenable. “If you prevent people from going to their property, rental accommodation or mobile home, you have to be able to substantiate that. First and foremost, for the sake of those people. And that substantiation is completely lacking today. On the contrary, key voices in the debate are calling the ban a measure that is wrong and virologically pointless,” argues Minister Zuhal Demir.

Own responsibility

Zuhal Demir calls on the National Security Council to be logical and to lift the ban as soon as possible. “Of course, measures will be needed to prevent people from thronging the tourist hotspots,” says Zuhal Demir. “That is the responsibility of the local authorities and especially the people themselves. We want to give people the responsibility to avoid risks themselves. We do that in the workplace, during family visits and with leisure activities.”
