Mathias Vanden Borre: “Left-wing politicians are turning a blind eye to the youth gangs in Brussels”

“The police are sometimes literally the last defence against this chaos and violence,” says Brussels MP Mathias Vanden Borre. Police union VSOA says it like it is on Radio 1: left-wing politicians are turning a blind eye to the youth gangs in Brussels. “We fear the situation will soon get out of hand.”
The police union confirms what the N-VA has been pointing out for years in Brussels. Mathias Vanden Borre: “Gangs of youths take to the streets to challenge the police and to take over power in certain neighbourhoods. This deliberate aversion to the law and our society is fed by a criminal base, such as drug trafficking and extremist preachers. The gross negligence of local authorities is immense.”
Not obstructed at all
Mathias Vanden Borre states that the situation is explosive: youth gangs, hate preachers and extremists deliberately target the police and are not obstructed by local politicians, especially those of the PS persuasion. “It’s unbelievable, because sometimes the police are literally the last defence against this chaos and violence.”
Finally breaking the vicious circle
One can cynically say that it is precisely these same local politicians who have often been in power for years, but who have hardly improved the situation of these young people. “Brussels and 99 per cent of Brussels residents, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, are unfortunately the victims of this. This vicious circle must finally be broken,” concludes Mathias Vanden Borre.
