As from 2019, Flemings will be able to choose more easily from among the various parcel services that deliver from different EU Member States. There will be a comparison website of all suppliers. MEP Anneleen Van Bossuyt is satisfied with the measure. “Consumers will from now on be able to determine more easily which rates are the most advantageous,” Anneleen Van Bossuyt says.

Informing Flemish consumers

The new rules are focusing on transparency for people who order packages from a different Member State. Companies will in the near future be obliged to indicate the cost price of a delivery, the delivery options and information about complaint procedures on their website. “In this way, Flemish consumers will be able to make their purchases in a better-informed manner,” MEP Van Bossuyt says.

Rapping the knuckles of cheats

In addition, cross-border parcel services with over 50 employees must inform the national authorities annually of, among other things, their price list, turnover and number of employees. “In this way national authorities can assess universal delivery companies more objectively and rap the knuckles of cheats,” Anneleen Van Bossuyt concludes.
