The way out of the asylum crisis: Theo Francken proposes a ten-point plan
“This country is in the midst of an asylum crisis. The number of asylum applications continues to rise, the shelters are full, and a lot of people are sleeping on the streets.” MP Theo Francken is showing the way out of the asylum crisis with a ten-point plan. “This Vivaldi government was going to take a more ‘humane’ approach, but on the ground, all we see is chaos and human misery.”
Migration is a complex issue, as former Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Theo Francken knows well. “The influx of asylum seekers has been very high for months. In September, we again saw a 16% increase in the number of asylum applications. It is time for change. With his ten-point plan, Theo Francken is providing tools to move towards real change in asylum and migration policy.
The 10 points in Theo Francken’s plan
- Stop chain migration
- Reduce family reunification
- Reintroduce asylum quotas
- Put dissuasion campaigns back online
- Stop resettlement
- Recognise fewer people as refugees; focus on subsidiary protection
- Make refugee status temporary
- Put up a real fight against asylum fraud
- Make onward travel unattractive
- Increase the capacity of return centres; restart the forced return of illegal families
Australian model to dry up illegal migrant smuggling
MP Theo Francken reiterated his plea for the introduction of the Australian model at the European level: whoever enters European territory illegally will lose the right to asylum forever. “Only in this way will the illegal migrant smuggling industry dry up, and the drownings will stop.”
