The N-VA sets five themes for a large members’ conference in 2023

26 April 2021

The N-VA is organising a large ideological members’ conference in the spring of 2023. In the run-up to that conference, five broad umbrella themes will be elaborated in depth. A theme chair for each of these themes was confirmed last weekend by the party leadership and the party council.

These are the five themes and their theme chairs:

  • MP Anneleen Van Bossuyt is responsible for the “Sustainable Flanders” theme, which focuses on energy and mobility, innovation, nature and sustainability.
  • The theme “Safe and resolute Flanders” on migration, identity, security, justice and defence is headed by MP Theo Francken.
  • A third theme is “Prosperous Flanders”, which will include education, taxation and ways to achieve a more efficient government. Vice-Chair Lorin Parys will be responsible for this theme.
  • His fellow Vice-Chair Valerie Van Peel will be the face of the “Warm Flanders” theme. Sub-themes include healthcare and well-being.
  • Finally, the fifth theme is “State of Flanders”, in which attention is naturally paid to institutional as well as political renewal and the state of freedom of expression in this country. The coordinator of this theme is MP Sander Loones.

Theme chairs get started with working groups

In mutual consultation, the theme chairs will set up broader working groups for their respective themes and sub-themes. These working groups will produce a series of substantive ideas, proposals and provisional texts on the basis of which the party can initiate a social dialogue with its members and the wider society. The intention is that these will then be further refined and ultimately result in conference texts that can be officially ratified at the large members’ conference.
