The N-VA advocates investment in Defence: “Defence is like insurance.”

The N-VA warns against cutting the Defence budget. “Defence is a kind of insurance. During the coronavirus crisis, it is our military who have gone to help in the rest homes and who are distributing protective equipment. Cutting their budgets now would be a slap in the face of all those people who are always there for us.”

Unsafe international context

The N-VA refers to the international context. “It is particularly unsafe in the world. It would be extremely unwise to think that we can afford to save on Defence. We need to be on our guard.”

Combating IS

The N-VA also expressed its support for the participation of Belgian F16s in missions in the Middle East. “We must not be naive. All reports show that IS is getting stronger again. Provided that there are clear rules, we will say ‘yes’ to the demand for an international coalition.”
