Room for new Flemish policy

2 May 2011

“The only government in this country that will be able to conclude 2011 with a balanced budget is the Flemish Government,” confirmed Flemish Minister for Finance and Budget Philippe Muyters on Monday at the presentation of the annual budget check. Flanders is also getting an unconstrained policy budget of EUR 115 million. It will use it to make carefully-targeted investments in among other things research and development (R&D), the school building program, the construction of sport infrastructure and the elimination of road black spots. “The Flemish Government is keeping its promise with this budget,” Philippe Muyters concluded. “We are achieving our projected budget figures and we are also immediately investing the remainder in a sustainable manner.” Flanders will therefore not be imposing additional cuts to plug the holes in the Federal budget.
