Reorganisation of embassies and consulates given poor marks
The announced reorganisation of the federal network of embassies and consulates contains, according to the N-VA, some good elements, but it is not the reform that is needed. The party does feel that more cooperation between Belgium and the Netherlands at foreign embassies is a good thing. The fact that we group together representations in cities where multiple posts are located, such as Paris or New York, can also count on our support. However, the N-VA had some notes regarding the entire reorganisation. The network of postings should have been reorganised based on the federated entities, which have to strengthen foreign trade and investments. Work must also be done on a reform of the staff regulations for diplomats and on an objectification of the selection of ambassadors; but the majority voted down the N-VA bills intended to make this possible.
