Priority for vulnerable asylum seekers
“We give priority to the most vulnerable.” Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Theo Francken is limiting the registration of asylum applications to a maximum of sixty per day. The reason is the steep rise in applications since July. In November, 2,750 migrants submitted their application, which is 50% more than the same month in the previous year. The increased influx is putting the number of places in the reception centres under pressure. “We are in crisis mode,” says Theo Francken, who wants to give priority to minors, pregnant women and the ill. The number of applications is currently between 100 and 110 per day.
