One hundred concrete ideas at the 2023 members’ congress

14 October 2022

During a press presentation, the N-VA officially launched the process for the major ideological members’ congress in May 2023. In the coming months, the party will hold five days of reflection on the same number of themes: Prosperous Flanders, Safe at Home in Flanders, Liveable Flanders, Warm Flanders and Strong Flanders. This will have to result in 100 concrete proposals that will be discussed at the congress. “The N-VA is and will remain a real supply party,” says vice-chairman Steven Vandeput.

Budget and finance, security and migration, climate, environment and energy, education and care and Europe and institutions. This wide range of issues will be examined in the coming months during five days of reflection that the party is organising throughout Flanders. These theme days will culminate in a text with 100 ideas to improve society.

100 ideas

In May, the party will convene all its members for a major members’ congress taking place on 12, 13 and 14 May 2023 in Antwerp. All members can have their say there, discuss proposals and amend them. “The intention is that we will discuss and concretise those 100 ideas there, entirely in the tradition of the supply party that the N-VA has always been,” says vice-chairman Steven Vandeput.

Confederalism If we want to make structural changes, then we have to change the structures. Confederalism is the structural change that this country needs. The basic principle of confederalism is that Flanders and Wallonia are the owners of all powers. They exercise these themselves, but can also make decisions together and manage certain powers together at the confederal level, in both of their interests. This completely reverses the logic. Instead of transferring federal powers to Flanders and Wallonia, these powers can be transferred to the confederal level. Forced cooperation is replaced by voluntary cooperation. Must becomes will. Dismantling from above becomes building up from below. Confederalism is therefore deciding together on what we want to do together. Confederalism proposal unchanged

The previous members’ congress in 2014 revolved largely around confederalism. “There will therefore be a lot more detailed proposals on the table, but one thing is certain: we will not change anything about our proposal on confederalism,” says Sander Loones, one of the congress leaders.
