On the road to the 2019 elections with familiar and new faces

The National Electoral College of the N-VA revealed the most prominent places for the elections of 26 May 2019 this evening. The party is putting a mix of familiar and new faces before the voter. On 9 February, the complete lists will be approved definitively by the party council, the highest political body of the N-VA.

Europe

The European list is headed by current Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois. Women’s rights activist Assita Kanko, who recently joined the party, is in the second place. In the third place we find former Finance Minister Johan Van Overtveldt.

Antwerp

Party Chairman and Mayor of Antwerp Bart De Wever heads the Flemish list in Antwerp, followed by current Flemish Minister Liesbeth Homans. Her colleague in the Flemish Government, Philippe Muyters, rounds out the list.

On the Parliament list it is Jan Jambon who is in position 1, followed by MP Valerie Van Peel. Parliamentary group leader Peter De Roover rounds out the list.

Limburg

In Limburg, former Secretary of State Zuhal Demir heads the Parliament list. In second place is Wouter Raskin, who has also sat in the federal parliament.

For the Flemish Parliament, the current Mayor of Hasselt and former Minister of Defence Steven Vandeput is heading the list, followed by MP Karolien Grosemans from Herk-de-Stad.

East Flanders

Group leader in the Flemish Parliament Matthias Diependaele is in the first place on the Flemish list for East Flanders. He is followed by Sarah Smeyers, who is making the transition to the Parliament. Rounding out the list is Lieven Dehandschutter, Mayor of Sint-Niklaas.

The Parliament list is being headed by MEP Anneleen Van Bossuyt. In second place we find Christoph D’Haese, Mayor of Aalst and MP. President of the Chamber of Representatives Siegfried Bracke rounds out the list.

Flemish Brabant

Mayor of Lubbeek and former Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Theo Francken heads the Parliament list for Flemish Brabant. He is being supported in this by MP Kristien Van Vaerenbergh in second place. Rounding out the Parliament list is Luc Deconinck, Mayor of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.

For the Flemish Parliament, Flemish Minister Ben Weyts is in first place, followed by Flemish MP Nadia Sminate. Mayor of Dilbeek and Flemish MP Willy Segers rounds out the list.

West Flanders

In West Flanders, the Parliament list is being headed by Sander Loones, former Vice-Chairman of the party and former Minister of Defence. In the second place we find a newcomer: Yngvild Ingels from Menen. Jean-Marie Dedecker will round out the Parliament list as an independent candidate.

The Flemish list is being headed by Mayor of Izegem and Flemish MP Bert Maertens. Behind him we find a new face: Maaike De Vreese from Bruges. The list is rounded out by Flemish MP Danielle Godderis-T’Jonck.

Brussels

Karl Vanlouwe heads the Flemish list in Brussels. Cieltje Van Achter is on the list for the Brussels-Capital Region. Outgoing Brussels MP Johan Van Den Driessche rounds out that list.
