New Finance website explains the tax shift to citizens

Minister of Finance Johan Van Overtveldt wants to involve citizens more closely in the tax shift and better inform them about the various aspects of this tax reform. That is why his office has recently launched www.mijntaxshift.be: a website that explains the large package of measures of the tax shift and the reasons why the government took these specific measures.

“This is not a promotional campaign,” the minister goes on to explain. “The website gives an objective overview of all the measures. The tax shift also includes increases in excise duties for example. This revenue is needed to significantly reduce the cost of labour. The end result is a better fiscal balance, which contributes to economic growth and creates jobs.” The cost of labour is far too high in Belgium. Jobs are too expensive for companies, while employees’ net salary is low compared with their gross salary. That is why this government has implemented an extensive tax shift of about eight billion euros. You can read more about this here and here.

A simulator calculates the impact on your wages
The user-friendly simulator on the start page calculates the positive impact of the tax shift on your net monthly wages for the following years. “Obviously we will update these data as the various aspects of the tax shift are enacted,” Minister Van Overtveldt adds.

The new website was developed in collaboration with the Federal Public Service Finance. The French-language version can be found at www.montaxshift.be.
