N-VA welcomes European ban on neonicotinoids

29 April 2013

Mass bee deaths have been increasing alarmingly in recent years. Reasons for this are the decline in biodiversity, the Varroa mite and the use of crop protection products containing neonicotinoids. Yet bees are crucial not only for the ecosystem, but also in economic terms. For Belgium, they are believed to represent an economic value of nearly EUR 500 million. The N-VA is therefore happy with the limited ban on the use of neonicotinoids for crops attractive to bees, although we would have preferred a somewhat wider ban.
