N-VA wants more transparent adoption policy

6 July 2011

Flemish candidate parents for the adoption of a child from a foreign country must be given more clarity and certainty in the future. Adoption procedures in Flanders are currently obscure and often drag on for years. In order to deal quickly with this uncertainty, Flanders’ majority partners, i.e. the N-VA, the CD&V and the sp.a, have started working on the reform of the Adoption Decree.
In this way, in the future, anyone who wants to will be able to apply as a candidate adoptive parent. Furthermore, people for whom the procedure has started must be given clarification as soon as possible with regard to their chances of adoption. Furthermore, candidates must be given a definite answer in the short term about how long they need to wait before a child can be allocated to them. One of the spearheads of this reform of the Flemish adoption policy is the creation of a Flemish Centre for Adoption.
