N-VA supports sanctions against Libya
The N-VA believes that the unanimous decision taken last night by the UN Security Council with regard to Libya was the only correct one possible. The UN Council condemned the violations of human rights by the regime of Colonel Gaddafi as the death toll in Libya grew to more than 1000. In line with the measures requested last week by the N-VA in the Chamber of Representatives, the Security Council also applied specific sanctions such as a total arms embargo against Libya, the blocking of Colonel Gaddafi’s bank accounts and those of other key figures in the regime, and the referral of the matter by the Security Council to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The N-VA hopes that the request of the Security Council will also be heard at the national level and that the arms embargo and the blocking of any funds will take place as rapidly as possible.
