N-VA ensures that nuclear energy remains on the European climate agenda

Maintenir les centrales nucléaires en activité plus longtemps pour éviter une pénurie d’énergie

The European Parliament voted on a non-binding resolution in preparation for the COP25 Climate Change Conference that is taking place from 2 to 13 December in Madrid, Spain. The original motion for a resolution stated that “nuclear energy is neither safe nor environmentally or economically sustainable” and therefore proposed the development of a fair transition strategy for the phasing out of nuclear energy in the EU. N-VA MEPs Geert Bourgeois, Assita Kanko and Johan Van Overtveldt, among others, managed to ensure that the European Parliament retains nuclear energy as part of its energy and climate strategy through an amendment. This amendment was adopted during the plenary vote and will now be part of parliament’s position in the climate debate.
