N-VA demands attention for the protection of religious minorities

The N-VA is calling for the appointment of a special European envoy for the protection of religious minorities in the Middle East and North Africa. Furthermore, the N-VA wants to link funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to a commitment from partner countries to protect their minorities.

Since the Arab Spring at the beginning of 2011, the persecution of and number of attacks on local minorities have increased significantly. Sectarian violence and persecution force local religious minorities to flee. Besides Egypt and Syria the situation in Iraq, Iran and Pakistan has also become lamentable.

Therefore the N-VA is pressing for a resolution for the appointment of a European envoy to monitor the protection of religious minorities in the region.
