Minister Jambon: “Address the problem of outlaw motorcycle gangs on the international level”

Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany will cooperate more closely to tackle cross-border problems with outlaw motorcycle gangs. The approach of these OMGs is also further strengthened on the Benelux level, following an agreement between Jan Jambon, the Minister of Security and the Interior and his Dutch and German colleagues.

Addressing cross-border problems with OMGs requires criminal and administrative measures to be taken. By the end of the year, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany want to map how they can better share information about outlaw motorcycle gangs with each other in the framework of the applicable legislation. “We will also exchange experiences to prevent the formation of such gangs and to track them down and prosecute them as criminal organisations,” says Minister Jambon. “I also want to adapt the existing police cooperation treaty with Luxembourg and the Netherlands, so that the local authorities in the border regions can exchange information about criminal gangs more easily”.

As a result of stricter legislation and large-scale police action in the Netherlands and Germany outlaw motorcycle gangs are increasingly often transferring their illegal activities in the realm of drugs, extortion and prostitution to our country. So Minister Jambon’s initiatives to strengthen the international collaboration to tackle this are just in time.
