MEP Assita Kanko receives the Oriana Fallaci Prize

19 December 2023

MEP Assita Kanko was awarded the Oriana Fallaci Prize in Rome for her unconditional commitment to protecting European values and the freedom of expression, against the rampant dictatorship of cancel culture and political correctness and for her fight for women’s rights and equal opportunities. “I therefore dedicate this award to all the women who are the victims of rape and sexual violence,” says Kanko.

Oriana Fallaci (1929-2006) was an Italian journalist who became world-famous for her interviews with world leaders. She became the leading light of critical and direct journalism, a fighter for women’s emancipation and, in her later life, also a fierce opponent of Islamic extremism.

Encouragement to continue

Assita Kanko is proud and very honoured with the award: “I thank the organisation from the bottom of my heart for noticing me and my European work in Italy. Oriana Fallaci was an incredibly strong and unrelenting woman who fought for freedom and never stopped when she faced difficulties. As a journalist, writer and publicist, she was an inspiration to me and many others. I see this award as an encouragement to continue my commitment to human rights. I therefore dedicate this award to all the women who are the victims of rape and sexual violence. Dignity and justice must prevail.”
