“Vaccination is the key to freedom, and the campaign is now running at full speed.” Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon expressed hope on Radio 1 on the eve of the reopening of the hospitality industry’s outdoor café terraces. “Flanders has very high figures for the population groups that are already vaccinated, 95%. That puts us in the lead in Europe. I want to thank every Fleming very much for that.” There will be a campaign to win over the last doubters in order to maintain the high vaccination rate, Jan Jambon said.

The coronavirus passport is not for privileges

During the discussion, the desirability of a coronavirus passport was also discussed. “Until everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated, I don’t think you can give privileges through a coronavirus passport. What it can be used for however is not having to take a test to be able to do something. Then it’s not discriminatory,” Jan Jambon said about the matter.

Enjoying the outdoor café terraces

Minister-President Jan Jambon calls the reopening of the outdoor café terraces on 8 May an important step. “A step that everyone is crying out for, too. Hopefully, the weather gods will smile on us.” Jan Jambon called on everyone to respect the coronavirus rules. “Although it will be a time for enjoyment, we must also remember that we’re not there yet and so we still have to follow the rules.”
