Jan Jambon explains permission to travel to secondary residences: “The rules apply everywhere”

“Why wait until 8 June if everyone agrees?” Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon explained the decision to allow people to travel to their secondary residences again. The rules remain the same everywhere, Jambon emphasises. “Everyone must realise they are responsible.”
Non-essential travel
People with a secondary residence can go there again. It makes sense, Minister-President Jan Jambon says. “The ban was related to the ban on non-essential travel. Remember the distinction we had at the beginning of the lockdown between essential and non-essential travel. However, that distinction isn’t so important now. Everyone agrees.”
The rules apply everywhere
Jan Jambon emphasises, however, that the permission to go to a holiday home does not change the rules. “We are appealing to everyone’s sense of responsibility. Social distancing, the bubble and the other rules continue to apply everywhere, whether you are in your holiday home on the coast or at home inland.”
Confidence in the Fleming
The Minister-President is confident. “In general, I have the impression that Flemings are dealing with the rules maturely. It is not possible to check whether everyone is strictly adhering to the rules. We don’t live in a police state, where we assign a police officer to every resident. It is up to everyone whether we can continue easing the rules, or whether we have to tighten them up again.”
