Helga Stevens among the most influential European politicians

The authoritative news website Politico has named Helga Stevens as one of the top 20 most influential women in European politics. Helga Stevens thus finds herself in the heady company of European Commissioners Cecilia Malmström and Vera Jourová among others. “This proves that the N-VA plays an important role in the European district,” the MEP says. “We are asserting our influence.”

Helga Stevens has been active in the European Parliament since 2014. As the first deaf politician in the Parliament she is naturally a voice for people with a disability, but in other areas too her voice carries significant weight. It was among other things her approach to immigration and the fight against social dumping that attracted Politico’s attention when the website drew up the list of “women who shape Brussels”.

Security an absolute priority

In the coming months, Helga Stevens will dedicate all her energies to protecting the security of citizens. “Together with a German colleague, I will draw up a set of recommendations intended to strengthen the European anti-terror policy,” the MEP says. “I will do everything I can to further improve the security of our citizens. That is an absolute priority for me.”
