Get to know the N-VA Ministers in the Flemish Government
The N-VA Ministers in the new Flemish Government have been announced. Apart from Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon, Zuhal Demir, Ben Weyts and Matthias Diependaele will be taking up a ministerial position. A first: with Zuhal Demir the N-VA is the very first party to provide a Flemish Minister of foreign origin and also the very first Flemish Minister of Justice. Also striking: the N-VA is responsible for the key competence of Education.
Jan Jambon - Minister-President and Foreign Policy, Development Cooperation, Culture, ICT and Facility Management
“Strong Jan” Jambon is of course taking on the job of Flemish Minister-President. In addition to that, he is also taking on the competences of Foreign Policy, Development Cooperation, Culture, ICT and Facility Management.
In the previous legislature, Jan Jambon was the federal Minister of Security and the Interior.
Zuhal Demir - Justice and Enforcement, Tourism, Environment and Energy
Zuhal Demir will become the very first Flemish Minister with foreign roots. And on top of that, as the very first Flemish Minister of Justice and Enforcement she is achieving a two-fold first. She will also be Minister of Environment, Energy and Tourism.
Zuhal Demir was Secretary of State for Equal Opportunities in the Michel government.
Ben Weyts - Education, Animal Welfare, Sport and the Flemish Periphery
Ben Weyts is to be the Flemish Minister of Education and Sport and retains his competences for Animal Welfare and the Flemish Periphery. He will also be the Vice-Minister-President.
In the previous Flemish Government, Ben Weyts was already the Minister of Animal Welfare and the Flemish Periphery, which he combined with Tourism and Mobility.
Matthias Diependaele - Finance, Budget, Immovable Heritage and Housing
Matthias Diependaele will be the Flemish Minister of Finance, Budget, Immovable Heritage and Housing. That means that the N-VA group in the Flemish Parliament will have to appoint a new group leader as, in recent years, Matthias Diependaele has been the group leader in the Flemish Parliament.
