Flanders approves trade agreement with Canada

2 March 2018

The Flemish Government has definitively approved the CETA trade agreement with Canada. This approval has put Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois over the moon. “This is the best signal to all our trading partners, and Canada in particular, that Flanders is an open economy that doesn’t put up any barriers,” the Minister-President says.

Honest free trade

Flanders is good for almost 90% of Belgian exports to Canada. This means that Minister-President Bourgeois is also pleased that all Flemish interests are represented in the CETA agreement. “Canada is closely associated with the European way of thinking when it comes to standards and values. Both Flanders and Canada have a great interest in free but honest trade,” he concludes.
