Finally a more severe policy for reuniting families

27 May 2011

For the first time in 30 years, the Belgian immigration law (vreemdelingenwet) has been made stricter. We have been waiting for this for years in Flanders, and now it is finally happening thanks to the hard work and pioneering role played by the N-VA fraction within the Chamber of Representatives. Yesterday, Members of Parliament Theo Francken, Sarah Smeyers and Daphné Dumery succeeded in obtaining a parliamentary majority vote for their proposals to drastically toughen conditions for reuniting families. The stricter conditions approved in the Chamber will discourage the influx of uneducated and non-integrated foreigners. Reuniting families is currently by far the biggest migration channel.
