Few Flemings present at “Shame” demonstration
On Sunday, around 34,000 people participated in a demonstration in Brussels to voice their concern about Belgium’s current political stalemate. The demonstration was an initiative by a few young people organised under the slogan “Shame. No government, great country”. The N-VA shares in the demonstrators’ frustrations but it nevertheless also wishes to point out that anyone genuinely concerned about the population’s well-being and prosperity cannot accept the current state of affairs in this country. For this reason, the N-VA continues to work to form a government which will deal with real-world problems. “Effective state reforms which hold Belgium’s various regions and communities accountable for their actions, socioeconomic reforms, a well-planned budget, a decent asylum policy and a justice system based on firm principles: that’s what the N-VA wants” confirmed the party’s chairman, Bart De Wever. For the rest, based on a poll carried out by the French-language newspaper Le Soir it appears that only 21% of the demonstrators were from Flanders and that a feeling of attachment to Belgium was the main reason for attending.
