Discouraging transit illegals in the port of Ostend

The Flemish port of Ostend has long suffered from trouble and crime due to the presence of illegal migrants. These 'transit illegals' are not interested in asylum: they only want to reach the United Kingdom as quickly as possible. For months, the N-VA has been urging the city and the port to make Ostend less attractive to transit migrants. The N-VA feels that the only worthwhile action the city administration can take is to tackle the root of the problem, i.e. the city and port must ensure that illegals cannot cross here any more. Then they will stay away of their own accord.
