Constitutional Court follows N-VA’s vision regarding ban on burkas

6 December 2012

The Constitutional Court confirms that the law banning the wearing of burkas is sufficiently accessible and precise and that banning this type of headwear can be necessary in a democratic society. It is simply forbidden to completely hide one’s face (carnival days being an exception) and allegedly religious arguments are subordinated to civil laws. The N-VA feels that, contrary to what people opposing the burka ban are saying, the ban does not lead to Moslems being stigmatised.
