The Council of Ministers today approved Belgium’s military aid package to Ukraine for 2025. A significant portion of the support will be delivered through Belgian companies. “This aid is not just an act of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who are bravely fighting for their freedom—it’s also an investment in our own security and economy,” said Minister of Defence Theo Francken.

Support for Ukraine, jobs for Flanders

Belgium is providing not only military equipment—such as armoured ambulances, drones, and protective gear—but also investing in the training of technicians and F-16 pilots, the maintenance of Ukraine’s air fleet, and digital collaboration. “Since our domestic industry is largely responsible for production, around 645 million euros will flow back into our economy. This strengthens employment in our defence sector as well,” Francken emphasized.

International jooperation for security

In addition to this bilateral support, Belgium remains actively involved in international partnerships focused on ammunition, missile systems, radar development, mine clearance, and IT infrastructure. “With this commitment, we reaffirm not only our enduring solidarity with the Ukrainian people, but also our determination to contribute to the security and stability of Europe. Ukraine is fighting for our freedom too,” Francken concluded.
