Bart De Wever reiterates the importance of identity: “Society can only be at peace when people see each other as players on the same team.”

“I don’t believe for a second that Flemings are racist.” On the TV programme Terzake, N-VA Chairman Bart De Wever once again stressed the importance of identity as a response to racism and discrimination in Flanders. “Peace and balance come when you have a society that is based on a healthy identity concept and where people see each other as players on the same team. However, identity is usually thought of as something rather dirty. It has been discarded, and now part of the protest involves that self-rejection coming back at us like a boomerang.”

The French-speaking socialists have been saying ‘no’ to the Flemish election results for over a year now

Bart De Wever also spoke about the Belgian federal malaise. “A year after the elections, you can summarise the formation of a government coalition as: the PS says no to the election results in Flanders.” The N-VA is ready to take up its political responsibility, the N-VA Chairman said, but not at any price. “Without institutional reform and without a socio-economic recovery policy, I will not participate in a government just so that there can be one. It has to be worth it.”
