Bart De Wever re-elected as N-VA chairman

15 November 2014

Current Chairman Bart De Wever starts a new term as party chairman. He received 91 percent of the votes. N-VA members had until 10 November to submit their vote by letter or via the Internet and had to choose between Greet Vertongen and Bart De Wever. Half of the 40,000 plus members with the right to vote did just that.

The Election Committee counted the votes and announced the result at the party council on 15 November. With 91 percent of the votes, Bart De Wever was re-elected as N-VA Chairman in the first round. Geert Vertongen ended with 9 percent of the votes.

Bart De Wever thanked N-VA members for their confidence and also thanked his rival candidate Geert Vertongen: “Geert conducted a worthy campaign. He also brought a number of legitimate concerns to our attention that I will look into further.”

Stability and continuity
De Wever is now looking to the future above all. “We are a party that is once more undergoing a complete transformation. A party that must also convert its manifesto into policy and as a result is facing attacks from various sides. Now the party needs stability and continuity. We must not exhaust our talents before they have had the chance to prove themselves. However, let me reassure you: I do not intend to remain as chairman forever.”
