“They’re plunging us into total uncertainty in a region that is heavily industrialised and for which energy is crucial.” In an interview on Radio 1, Bart De Wever explained again why the planned nuclear phase-out in 2025 is irresponsible. “Now we are being dragged into the abyss by the greens. I think that the other parties have been dumbfounded by the dexterity with which Tinne Van der Straeten (Minister of Energy, Greens, ed.), who knows this subject very well, was able to manoeuvre very quickly.”

Bart De Wever is even offering an alternative majority to stop the nuclear phase-out. According to Bart De Wever, the five parties with which he negotiated during the summer are all in favour of keeping the power stations open longer. “They can be assured of our votes. We are the largest party, there are plenty of seats to be picked up, and I am offering them without any strings.”

Price increases without certainty

According to Bart De Wever, Belgium is in danger of “becoming the most polluting energy producer in Europe after Poland”, and the closure of nuclear power stations will be accompanied by “enormous price increases” for consumers and companies as well as uncertainty about the energy supply.
