Balanced budget for Flanders in 2011

2 January 2011

On the second-to-last day of the year Flemish Budget Minister Philippe Muyters (N-VA) proudly presented the budget results for 2010. Not only did the Flemish government attain its budgetary targets for 2010 but, with a deficit of EUR 483.9 million, it actually did better than the proposed objective of EUR 500 million. “This will allow us to steer the Flemish government towards 2011 in the best possible manner so that we can present a balanced budget next year” said a satisfied Philippe Muyters. Flanders wishes to be the first regional entity in Belgium to already achieve a balanced budget in 2011. “In doing so the focus will primarily be on the continued realisation of gains in efficiency” explained the Budget Minister. “As a result, Flanders will also be able to invest more rapidly in new policy initiatives.”
