Anneleen Van Bossuyt files as civil party in fraud investigation at Anderlecht Public Social Welfare Centre

Minister for Social Integration Anneleen Van Bossuyt has filed as a civil party in the judicial investigation into possible fraud at the Public Social Welfare Centre (OCMW/CPAS) in Anderlecht. Her decision follows the recommendations of a parliamentary working group. “Those who exploit our social system for personal gain must be held accountable,” she stated resolutely.
To recap, a parliamentary working group chaired by MP Wouter Raskin investigated cases of social fraud and, after “dozens of hours of hearings,” issued a series of recommendations. These were approved yesterday by the Social Affairs Committee.
A strong message against abuse
“Social assistance exists to help those in need—not to serve personal or political interests,” said Minister Van Bossuyt. “Abusing our system not only harms the most vulnerable but also erodes public trust in our social institutions.”
The minister has requested access to the case files from the public prosecutor and is determined to uncover the truth. “Transparency, justice, and the proper use of taxpayers' money—those are the principles behind my decision to file as a civil party.”
Serious consequences for the Welfare Centre
Should the investigation confirm fraud, Van Bossuyt intends to take firm action. Her inspection services will forward all relevant information to the Brussels-Capital Region, which has the authority to initiate disciplinary proceedings. She does not rule out placing the Anderlecht OCMW under guardianship. Any public funds wrongfully allocated will be reclaimed.
Stricter controls from 2026
From 2026 onward, the inspection service under Minister Van Bossuyt’s authority will be reinforced, significantly increasing the number of audits. “We are implementing a tougher system of oversight and sanctions, with more frequent and thorough inspections by the Federal Public Planning Service for Social Integration,” the minister explained. “Whenever there are signs of fraud, we won’t hesitate to call in the federal police. We will not tolerate the misuse of public funds—especially when it comes at the expense of the most vulnerable.”
