At the beginning of August last year, Brussels MP Gilles Verstraeten asked for an emergency session of the Health Committee following the terrible coronavirus figures in Brussels. “That was laughed off at the time.” A year later, he repeated his question.
Not only the N-VA, but also the other opposition parties are now again requesting an emergency session of the Health Committee. The reason is obvious: Brussels has a very low vaccination rate, even when compared to other major European cities. Besides the issue of vaccinations being on and off, Gilles Verstraeten believes that an emergency session must also address the subject of returning travellers, from Morocco, for example.
No more making excuses
Gilles Verstraeten hopes that the committee will take the request seriously this time. “It is high time to intervene and get everyone pointing in the same direction. No more making excuses. Many vaccine refusers can still be convinced. How, where and when must now be the subject of an emergency session. So all hands on deck to pull Brussels out of the coronavirus mire.”
