12 additional measures for combating radicalism and terrorism
On Friday 16 January, the government announced an initial series of twelve additional measures for combating terrorism and radicalisation. They focus on aspects such as more effective punishments for people who travel abroad for terrorism purposes and those who try and recruit new fighters. Foreign fighters who reside in Belgium will be monitored more systematically, and radicalism in prisons will be dealt with resolutely. If the terrorism threat is raised to level 3, the government will be able to decide to deploy the army to perform specific surveillance assignments, and the National Security Council is being set up. The measures in question are the twelve measures set out below.
