Anneleen Van Bossuyt elected chairman of influential EU Committee

ECR The N-VA is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), a conservative, eurorealistic parliamentary group in the European Parliament. The N-VA shares their realistic view of the European project and also advocates for the correct and intensive application of the subsidiarity principle. For example, we must not be afraid to ask ourselves if it would be better to leave certain European initiatives to the Member States. The N-VA also identifies with the emphases that the ECR places on the social-economic issues. Since the 2014 elections, the ECR has become the third largest parliamentary group in the European Parliament. ECR Member of the European Parliament Anneleen Van Bossuyt has been elected chairman of the influential Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO). “I will do my upmost to help further develop the European single market and continue our group’s work on consumer protection”, a satisfied Van Bossuyt responds.
“Our single market is the cornerstone of European cooperation”, she continues. “It is in the interest of us all to build a strong and fair single market. Moreover, we now need to further unlock the opportunities of the digital world and build long term growth and deliver jobs. We need legislation that stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship, and that doesn’t impose too many burdens on business. Legislative proposals need to undergo a Competitiveness The extent to which companies in one country can compete with similar companies in another country. A law came into force in Belgium in 1996 to monitor competitiveness. This stipulates that Belgian salaries may not evolve faster than the average of those in the three neighbouring countries. The Central Economic Council (CEC) performs an annual measurement to see if the objectives have been obtained. competitiveness test so that we understand the costs and benefits of the legislation put in front of us. We need to keep red tape for businesses to a minimum.”
Brexit: negotiating a balanced deal
As a Committee Chair of the European Parliament, Van Bossuyt will also work together with the relevant negotiating teams on Brexit. “I want to ensure we deliver a balanced deal, which will be beneficial both to Europe and the United Kingdom. Whether in or our outside the European Single Market, the UK will always be one of our most important trading partners”, she concludes.
