The European independent watchdog VoteWatch Europe has drawn up a list of the 70 most influential MEPs today, out of a total of 751. Anneleen Van Bossuyt is number 29 in the list. Among Belgian MEPs, she is in second place, with only Guy Verhofstadt ahead of her. Anneleen Van Bossuyt is also the second-fastest-rising MEP on the list after the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

A very pleased Anneleen Van Bossuyt responds to this high rating: “It gives me great satisfaction that my hard work in the European Parliament is paying off. VoteWatch Europe is an authority in European politics. It is already giving me a boost to make even more use of my position so that the N-VA’s European vision and the interests of Flemings in Europe can be asserted even more vigorously.” In June, Anneleen Van Bossuyt was unanimously elected chair of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) committee, becoming the youngest female chair ever.

Dossier devourer

“But this good score is not only to do with my new position,” Anneleen Van Bossuyt notes. “Almost half of the points are given on the basis of the dossiers I have successfully guided through the European Parliament. Over the past few years, I have among other things championed better rights for travellers, more resources for scientific research and the elimination of European borders for online subscriptions such as Netflix and Telenet Play Sports.”

Earlier this year, VoteWatch elected Anneleen Van Bossuyt as the Flemish MEP with the most influence in digital and telecom dossiers.
